RIMUTAKA RAILWAY FUN RUN & WALK 2012

BY ENTERING THIS EVENT, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

1) Entrants under the age of twelve must compete this event with an accompanying adult.
2) This race is conducted by the Trentham United Harriers & Walkers Club. You must follow the Race Marshalls instructions. We reserve the right to withdraw from this event, any competitor that we consider should not continue for medical reasons.
3) To abide by race rules and follow the directions of race officials, community rescue and St. Johns staff.
4) You will not transfer your entry to another person.
5) You will not smoke while on the course.
6) You acknowledge that yuo compete at my own risk.
7) For the Privacy Act that: information concerning this event may be used by Trentham United Harriers and its sponsors.

COURSE INFORMATION
This is a fun run and walk over the old Fell Railway line between Upper Hutt and Featherston through the Rimutaka Ranges. This 17km course is entirely off-road but the surface is in excellent condition. It rises from 254m above sea level at the start, along a steady gradient no greater than 1 in 40, to the summit at 348m (10km mark). From here it is all down hill through a series of tunnels that will be illuminated, to the finish at 60m above sea level. This is a scenic and historic route that can be negotiated by any reasonably fit person. There may at a shallow creek-crossing at approximately 200m from the finish to cool your feet! As this is a fun run and walk, times will be called but not recorded at the finish.

ELIGIBILITY
This event is open to entrants over twelve years old, but entries will be accepted from younger entrants competing with an adult.

ENTRY FEES
Entry fees of $30 will accepted on-line and by post until 11:55pm on Saturday 20th of October 2012. Thereafter late entries of $35 will be accepted on-line until 11:55pm on Wednesday 24th October ,or at the race number pick-up points (i.e. at the Trentham Harriers club room on Thursday 25th October between 6-9pm and Friday 26th October between 4-8pm) and at the start area on race day. Postal entries ($30) will be accepted up until the Saturday 20th October.

Entry fees can be refunded if you withdraw in writing to PO Box 40-357, Upper Hutt, before Saturday 20th October. A deduction of $3 will be made to cover administration costs. Please enclose a stamped and self-addressed envelope if acknowledgement is required.

RACE NUMBERS
Numbers must be pinned in the front at chest height and kept for spot prizes and collecting T-shirts after the finish. Race numbers will NOT be sent out by post.

Collect your race packs on:
- Thursday 25th October (6-9pm) at Trentham United Clubrooms (Barton Road entrance, Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt)
- Friday 26th October (4-8pm) at Trentham United Clubrooms (Barton Road entrance, Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt
- or Saturday 27th October (RACE DAY) at the start line (Wellington Kart Club Track, Rimutaka Incline, Kaitoke).

DRINK STOPS
Drink stops will be provided at points along the course and at the finish. Times will be called but not recorded at the finish.

THE WEATHER & WHAT TO WEAR
The event will be held wet or fine. Dress for the conditions on the day! The weather can be unpredictable and it is essential that you bring a change of clothes. In case of bad weather, we strongly advise that you wear thermals, and carry a parka, hat and gloves. The highest point of the course is 360m above sea level and the Siberia Gully is exposed to the southeast.

FIRST AID
First Aid will be available on the course. The organisers and first aid staff reserve the right to withdraw any entrant that they consider should not continue for medical reasons.

START TIMES
Walkers - 8:00am
Runners - 10:00am


START/FINISH
The event starts at the Wellington Kart Club Track at Kaitoke (9km North of Upper Hutt) and finishes at Cross Creek near Lake Wairarapa, off Western Lake Road (9km South of Featherston). There will be buses available for transport to the start from the Wairarapa and Upper Hutt, and for transport from the finish to home (see below for further details).

TRANSPORT TO THE START
By Car:

The race starts at the Kaitoke Go-Kart track on SH2, 9km north of Upper Hutt. Entrants can be dropped off at the start but there is no room for parking. Entrants can leave their vehicle at the Te Marua Speedway carpark (4km north of Upper Hutt) and a free shuttle will take you to the start. The last shuttle leaves the carpark at 7:45am for walkers, and 9:45am for runners. A security guard will be on site at the Te Marua Speedway carpark.

By Bus (from Wairarapa):
Entrants from the Wairarapa will be picked up at the following locations and times (Return Trip $10).
WALKERS:
Masterton (6:15am) Transit depot in Queen Street
Carterton (6:30am) Bus stop in Holloway St opposite the Police Station
Greytown (6:40am) Bus stop opposite the Community Store
Featherston (6:55am) Bus stop near Adamson's Mobil Station
RUNNERS:
Masterton (8:00am) Transit depot in Queen Street
Carterton (8:15am) Bus stop in Holloway St opposite the Police Station
Greytown (8:25am) Bus stop opposite the Community Store
Featherston (8:40am) Bus stop near Adamson's Mobil Station

By Bus (from Upper Hutt):
Entrants from Upper Hutt will be picked up at the following locations and times (Return Trip $10).
WALKERS:
Upper Hutt (7:00am) Upper Hutt Rail Station
RUNNERS:
Upper Hutt (9:00am) Upper Hutt Rail Station

TRANSPORT TO PRIZE GIVING
After you have finished the event, a free shuttle will take you to Featherston for the prize-giving. No early transport has been arranged to leave from Featherston before the prize-giving.

TRANSPORT HOME
Return transport has been arranged for the Wairarapa and Upper Hutt/Wellington entrants, departing at the end of the prize-giving.

By Bus (to Wairarapa):
The Wairarapa bus will stop at Greytown, Carterton and Masterton.

By Bus (to Upper Hutt):
The Upper Hutt bus will stop at the Te Marua Speedway carpark and Upper Hutt Railway station.

TRANSPORTATION DETAILS
I
t is important that all entrants requiring transport by bus (including those returning to the Te Marua Speedway carpark) tick the appropriate boxes in the options section. For all bus transport (other than the free shuttles), there is a one-off charge of $10 per person.

BAGGAGE BUS
All clearly-labelled personal items left at the designated area at the start, will be transported to the finish at Cross Creek.

PRIZE-GIVING
Certificates will be available at the finish and from the T-shirt table at the Fell Museum.Major spot prizes (includes travel and gift vouchers) will be given out at the prize-giving at the Fell Museum at 1:00pm (Anzac Hall in wet weather) and minor prizes can be collected from 12:00pm. You must be present with your race number to collect your prize otherwise prizes will be redrawn.Changing and toilet facilities are available at the Senior Citizens Hall for ladies, and at the School Hall for men (both situated near the Fell Museum). Showers will be available at the Featherston Rugby Club.

MERCHANDISE
T-shirts and polo shirts with the 2011 Rimutaka Railway Fun Run & Walk logo are available for purchase. This merchandise will be available for pick-up from the merchandise table at the Fell Museum. If for any reason you require any merchandise to be sent to you after the event (eg late registration), a freight charge of $4 will be applied.
